And let’s be real, most of us don’t even realize it. Malcolm X wasn’t nor hasn’t been revered as MLK is. I mean, how dare this brotha say that if you hit him, he’s going to hit you back. White folks don’t tolerate shit like that. And it’s also funny that so many white folks will be the first to tell you about how Malcolm changed his views closer to his death. They never want to talk about how those changed views were dealing with being the type of  Muslim he was more so than being a Black Nationalist.

Black Nationalism is something that is feared in our community. Yeah, we know white folks fear it but not like we do. We’re more afraid of it than they are. You have no idea how many times I get called ‘radical’ or ‘militant’ on a daily basis. I actually rather resent this because I don’t consider myself to be either. God forbid I actually believe that I should be entitled to the rights this country said I was as a citizen.  I believe that we as Black people have the right to determine our own freedom. For liberty and justice for all. That’s what’s folks say in that bullshit ass pledge don’t they? Yall know I don’t say or stand for that shit because it’s not true. Hell,  if they added ‘for white folks’ at the end, I’d me more inclined to agree.

To me, Malcolm X was the embodiment of the American Dream. He actually believed in what this country said it stood for and had the audacity to hold it accountable for its actions. He was truly a freedom fighter. You’ll never see any of these fake ass Black leaders acknowledge Malcolm on anything more than a superficial level. You think, your president Barack, is going to speak on Malcolm’s contributions? Of course he won’t. But he’s still your president? The same dude who is taking away your liberties and continuing to disenfranchise you and yours for employment and other opportunities? But we  stay slobbing down this house nigga as if we don’t know what he’s doing and we know but we so desperately need to see him in the role of president that we ignore everything else.

It’s because we believe we’re inferior and Barack somehow makes up for that for a lot of us. Regardless of what he’s doing….

How sad is that? Malcolm repeatedly tried to tell us that we weren’t inferior in the slightest and Barack allows us to dwell in that inferiority and even encourages it. How backwards is that shit?

Do you see how Malcolm will never truly and fully be appreciated? Because he forced us to go against those ingrained feelings we have of not being worthy and he told us over and over again just how worthy we are. That we need to be careful of what was being told of us, about us. We had to be aware of the dangers because they’d consume of us if they let us. And following his death, Martin’s death and the infiltration of the Black Panther Party, we believe that harmful shit more and more. That’s why we do most of the shit we do.

We believe that the shit that happens to us is deserved instead of realizing that we’re in a society that is run and operated by some sadistic individuals. We believe that we’re the problem. Racism is not and never has been our problem. It’s their problem and it always will be because they knew that in order to do accomplish everything they have, they’ve had to kill, still and destroy.

How many times did Malcolm try to warn us about this? To not let them further destroy our minds? And in the  near fifty years since his death…we’ve completely forgotten those lessons. We embrace Basketball Wives, BET and Nicki Minaj. Along with hair weaves and lace fronts and material goods. We have aided in our own destruction all because we’re afraid of the power we have as a people.

At the end of the day, that, more than anything else needs to change. No more fear. No more inferiority complex. No more denying our greatness and just due.

We have to control our own destiny.

Yet another round of my shows have come to an end for the summer hiatus and permanently.

To be honest, with the exception of a few highlights, overall this television season was just coo to me. And yall know how much I love my shows. I’ll break it down for yall.

Desperate Housewives- It’s been eight years that I’ve resided on Wisteria Lane but I gotta be honest, it was time to move. I mean, as much as I loved the show and the hi-jinks that ensued, they got to the point where they were doin too damn much. I mean Bree turning into a ho and going on trial for murder? Really tho? Gaby getting a job? And they totally wasted the talent of Vanessa Williams on the show. She was nothing more than Wilhelmina Slater redux. But I stayed throughout and I’m glad how it ended. I was hoping for a return of Edie but considering her lawsuit against Marc Cherry, I knew that wasn’t going to happen.  But I have to ask, where were Bree’s kids during the trial? They’re mama was on trial for murder and they were nowhere to be seen? The show jumped the shark too many times to count but I remained, loyal until the end. One thing that always bothered me though was with Linette’s kids. The twins were younger than their other son before they did that several year fast forward but afterward he was younger….Really tho?

90210- Why oh why do I keep watching this show? I swear I think it’s because I’m hoping it will capture me like the original did. After four seasons, no such luck. I think I watch it now out of habit and trust, it’s not worth it…But will that stop me from tuning in, probably not. They just do the most! And this whole little group of friends is damn near incestuous. Everybody sleeping with each other. And where are the parents? I know they just started college and all but they seriously need some guidance. And aint it convenient as hell how they all got oodles of money? And even if they don’t, they still do….SMH. Privileged white kids with the token white washed brotha….Yeah, it’s time to quit this bitch.

One Tree Hill- Like with Desperate Housewives, I stayed with this one until the end. And also like the aforementioned, this show did the most and it was time to let it go.  Question, what is with the fast forward? Word to the wise, when a show fast forwards years ahead, it’s time to let it go. I had to end this one for sentimental reasons alone cuz to be honest, the thrill was long gone.

Law & Order: SVU- Stabler is gone, as is Wong and Melinda only makes guest appearances. So…What you have is a predictable show with storylines that aren’t as good as they used to be. However, since Olivia is still on and she’s my girl, I tune in. But it’s definitely not the same. These new folks, they be trying but…I still love me some SVU tho. Always have.

Revenge- This is one of my new shows for the season. If you haven’t peeped this yet, what is wrong with you? Night time soap, rich, crazy, white folks…I’m tellin you! I swear I’ve only seen like  1 1/2 Black people on the program since it started in the fall but I’m not mad about that. White folks can keep this crazy. These folks are unconscionable and vindictive as hell. So, you know, typical white behavior. But it’s a good watch tho.

Person of Interest- Have yall peeped this yet? It’s a procedural save-the-day weekly type show with Taraji P. Henson starring in it. I really be feelin this one on Thursday nights. It’s witty, dramatic and suspenseful and let me be real, Jim Caviezel is hella sexy. Even if he did play White Jesus in The Passion of the Christ. But if you haven’t watched it, start from the beginning so you know what’s going on. Basically it’s about a rich, reclusive genius who creates a machine that can tell when someone is either about to die or about to kill someone and the team attempts to prevent it from happening. Really good.

Scandal- This is the BEST. Absolute BEST new show of the season. And it is SLEPT ON! Scandal is about a DC fixer played by Kerry Washington who fixes all types of fiascoes for well to do folks. But this, it’s so much deeper than that. Layers upon layers. I actually started to like Shonda Rimes again after this show cuz yall know I stopped fuckin with her the worse Grey’s Anatomy became. But this right here. This is some prime material! You need to watch this online IMMEDIATELY if you haven’t yet. The first season was only seven episodes long so you don’t have set aside oodles of time to catch it. But do. Watch it!

The Office, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, Modern Family- Real talk, it’s time for The Office and 30 Rock to end. I’ve heard that next season will be the last for the latter. I love me some Liz Lemon and Tina Fey is a comedic genius but the show has run it’s course. And The Office is frankly holding on for dear life. However, Parks and Recreation, that show is THE funniest show on television. I cry laughing watch it every time! Also, Modern Family is not far behind. These two shows keep me dyin! As long as they stay fresh, I will continue to show love.

The Vampire Diaries- Now this right here is my show. Mind you, this season was a bit drawn out but they made up for it in the last few weeks. That’s how you gotta reel folks in. If you’re into the supernatural, nighttime soap, campy show, this is for you. This show is good and it just gets better. I’m anxiously awaiting for next season after that finale.

Other shows that I love that will be having their season finales soon are the likes of Mad Men and Game of Thrones. I’m sure both will be good considering the season’s have been wonderful thus far. I also look forward to my summer shows starting such as Pretty Little Liars and True Blood.  Hopefully True Blood can redeem itself to me because yeah, it aint been cutting it as of late.

Shit, I was hoping it would stop with Whitney but clearly 2012 is not playing! Yesterday news broke that funk music legend Chuck Brown passed away. I asked on Facebook, who would be the third considering news of a Kennedy death broke yesterday as well.

But this morning it was Donna Summer.

Damn, Donna Summer! A woman who could blow but was relegated to the era of disco.

This year is not holding back on us apparently. Gol-ly!

Let me leave you with the song that showed me just how bomb Donna Summer’s voice for itself was.

That’s of course if heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure didn’t do the trick already.

U.S. scientists (how convenient) have developed a correlation between sugar and intelligence. They are stating that sugar can make you dumb. If this is true, I would have the wager that the entire state of Florida decided to ignore all of those keen high fructose corn syrup warnings cuz them mothafuckas…

Of course this experiment was done on rats, so it may or may not have the same effect in humans. We’ll see. But the rats got dumber and could no longer due a maze after sucking down the sweet stuff.

Basically, eat a balance diet and exercise daily. You’ll be fine. Get healthy. That’s the important thing. You don’t need to look a certain way or fit a certain mold, just be healthy and make good decisions in your food choices and you’ll be fine.

However, unlike my contemporaries who are also highly educated, single Black women in their late twenties, this doesn’t bother me.

Perhaps that makes me weird. I’m not sure what category I’d be in. But when I hear about people being pregnant or see their newborn babies, I don’t have that longing feeling that makes me say, “Aww, I want one.”

In fact if anything, I try to Heisman my way out of sight because I start looking around at the other highly educated, single Black women in the vicinity and feel like I’m the only one who hasn’t been overtaken by a pod person. I don’t have those longing feelings when I see babies or hear about impending nuptials. In fact, I feel like I’m the only sober person in a room filled with stoned people. The Kool-Aid has not been drunk.

What’s interesting is that should one of these contemporaries ask me my opinion, I  raise an eyebrow, widen my eyes and shake my head and shrug.

Because, and I know some of yall have to feel me on this, I have no desire to get married or have children.

Immediately after reading that there will be one of two responses. The first one will be: “Yeah, you do, you’re just saying that. Your mind will change.” The second one will be: “Welp, now that you said it, it’s definitely going to happen to you.”

So my only options are that either I don’t know myself or that I have bastards wished upon me.

That is in no way appealing to me whatsoever.

I am the seemingly rare Black woman who does not want to marry a man and have his babies. This is no dream to me. In fact, the mere idea sends a feeling of panic through me and causes an unbearably large lump in my throat following the loss and gasping of air.

I can’t possibly be the only sista who feels this way. I can’t possibly be the only sista who does not want to be tied down to a man for the rest of my life or to his children.

I have so many friends getting married or recently married, having kids and I have no desire for either. Granted when I was a kid I did. I had the idea of marrying a man, as my bridesmaids wore lavender and eventually having four or five children. However between the ages of 10 and 20 those feelings began to fade and have been gone ever since. That’s nearly ten years of not wanting to have that future.

Does that mean I don’t want to spend my time with a fine Denzelian© brotha? Not at all. However, marrying him? Forever? That’s a whole different subject. That desire is not there. I can’t see myself with anybody for the rest of my life but I also don’t want to.

Already I see sistas reading this and shaking their heads because so many of you are so convinced that I’m not serious but I am. Completely. I also attempt to let folks know that I’m pretty set in my ways. Those of you who know me, know this to be true but you think that I don’t know myself well enough to know what I do want and don’t want out of life?

Many of you may think, we’ll when she gets to where she wants to be in life, her feelings will change. She won’t feel complete without a man or a baby.

Who thought of that bullshit right there?

Considering we live in a world thriving on patriarchy, I’m betting it was a man.

Men have created within the mindset of women that we need them and their seed to feel as though we are somebody. Really tho?

And so many women believe this shit. And if you are the one in your group of peers who doesn’t, (me for instance) there is something wrong with you. Or they just classify you as being a lesbian which is equally annoying if not offensive to the LGBT community. As if women who are lesbians must be so because they hate or can’t get men when more than likely they are just sexually and emotionally attracted to women.

So, here I am. A highly educated, single Black woman in my late twenties who doesn’t want what society says I should want. What am I to do?

Well, for one, I’m going to keep living life as I have been. But also, I think it’s high time that women began to define themselves for themselves. I do not now, nor have I ever fit that societal mold from which I was supposed to be carved. God used a new batch of clay on me obviously.

But no one has told my why I should want these things. Why should a husband and children be the things that make me complete? I feel complete in myself. If anything, any man who I choose to spend my time with should be an extension of me and my completeness. He should be extra, not the missing piece. I have no pieces missing. I’m a whole person. The same goes for children.

Now, I’m not knocking those of you who feel as though the world is all yours because you’re getting /gotten married or are having/ had babies. That’s good for you, I’m happy for you and I wish you the best. However, why can’t people be happy for me because I’m doing me and not doing what they are?

Why is what I want for myself taboo in our community specifically and society as a whole?

Because if I were to make a bet, I’d say a lot more women feel as though I do and just don’t say anything because they know the response that will be sure to come. The wishing of spawn and life long bonds. And since I believe that words can be spoken into power, I’d just rather not have those curses ushered my way.

Of course the Song of the Day is dedicated to her and her alone.

I often get asked where I’ve gotten my information from regarding Europeans stealing knowledge from Afrikans. Well, this is one of the sources I’ve used. This is extremely well researched and informed account of just where everything from Ancient Greeks in which white people have built their society was actually derived from Afrikans and Asians alike.

Check this out! And for those Europeans who will undoubtedly have an issue with this because anything countering their faux innate dominance is problematic for them, a white dude wrote and research this himself.
